Today they run our lives and businesses but they are ecological disaster, polluting the planet through their toxic manufacture and massive energy appetite.
Little Green Genie is software that measures how much you use your computer and then calculates the amount of carbon your are emitting as a direct result of that usage. As you use your computer the software automatically reduces your pre-purchased carbon credit.
t's very cheap to offset your computers manufacture and ongoing emissions. Based on a Harvard study released in 2007, the environmental impact of making a computer is approximately the equivalent of making a small car. Surprising isn't it? When you first set up Little Green Genie you can elect to offset the manufacture of your computer - that's about AUD $14.49 for a desktop and AUD $8.4 for a laptop. There's more about the methodology of these calculation in the FAQs section of the site. If you do offset your manufacture you will be carbon neutral from day #1. Then, on an ongoing basis your credit will just tick away slowly as the year goes on. On average, a standard desktop computer with a 15” monitor that is used 2 hours a day will use about AUD $10 of credit a year - that's like buying four cans of Coke!
To help spread the word and show your commitment to a zero carbon computer future, the Genie software will add a little tag line to your email signature certifying you as a zero carbon computer user. This tag will ocan be turned off easily if you do not wish to share the concept.
